Complementing the powerful groupware functionality of GMS, the GMS Sync solution offers native support for wireless OTA (over-the-air) synchronisation of email, calendars (events) and contacts. Leveraging the capabilities of the Synchronica mobile solutions (a unique multi-protocol gateway combining Push IMAP, SyncML, ActiveSync, Email to MMS, and Email to SMS), GMS Sync provides critical wireless functionality for practically any mobile device; seamlessly integrated into the core GMS functionality. This wide remit of device support allows for very extensive deployment of mobile messaging functionality, even where low-end handset provision is the norm.

Provisioning is client enabled to ensure email account security, with an easy to use configuration interface for adding new users. Following handset selection the provisioning facility provides OTA configuration to the user's handset (if required), or if not required PIM data will automatically update to the native calendar/contact mechanisms on the mobile device (in conjunction with a SyncML client where required).

GMS Sync enables integrated, wireless PIM functionality, i.e.: users who want to view their calendar and contact information on their smartphones (for example: iPhones/Androids etc.) may do so at a modest per-user cost. Email can be viewed on the device as normal via IMAP (this functionality is a default function of GMS). This means that GMS users can read their personal email/calendar and contact information on their mobile device.

GMS Sync also allows Gordano to address the messaging requirements of developing markets. Typically, a developing world example is as follows:     Mobile device + infrastructure demand is very high     Due to a lack of reliance on (and availability of) cabled connectivity, reliance on mobile devices/technologies is very high     Economic and technological constraints will often mean that mobile (cell) users will lack an email address, or rely on a mix of free email facilities from a wide range of providers     Mobile providers/operators will want to reduce churn in their customer/user base

The usage of GMS Sync in this type of context can provide/facilitate a number of benefits:     Users obtain an email address that can be accessed wholly via their mobile handset. Email is sent via SMS and very little user education is required.     Handsets in this context can often be low spec - GMS Sync will work with all hand set types, even if old/minimally optioned     GMS Sync can automatically configure handsets OTA (over-the-air); this means that new users on the system can start receiving/sending email without the need to laboriously configure their own mobile phones     User retention is improved (and subscription revenue is enhanced) via the provision of a dedicated email service (which can also act as another channel to the consumer from the mobile operator)
